My Brother, My Friend

My whole life I remember hearing people say 'You look so much like Dj', or 'You and Dj are so much alike'.  As a kid, I recall being offended.  What 14 year old girl wants to be like her mean older brother?? NOT ME! least not then.

As the years went by, I found that I really was becoming more and more like Dj.  We had similar values, similar goals, and were both addicted to loving our family.  It wasn't long before I realized that not only did I not mind being like him, I was PROUD to say that he and I were alike.

Today, I celebrate the greatness my mom gave the world in my brother DJ.  He is kind.  He is loyal.  He is funny and he is LOVED.  I, for one, can say that knowing him and being a part of his life has made me a better person.

Happy Birthday, Big Brother.  I hope that each day I learn to be a little more like you :)

Bread and Me

I have found a new love...Yeast Bread (and I don't mean eating it, tho that's a definite plus!)

I am fascinated and intrigued by the rising of the dough.  How you can make 3cups of flour turn into such an amazing thing is beyond me.  I love the entire process...from adding those first ingredients together, to wearing yourself out kneading the dough. After all of the anticipation and hardwork you are rewarded with a gloriously golden jumble of yumminess.

When first trying my hand at yeast breads, I stuck with the good ol' box version of semi do-it-yourself hot rolls.  They turned out ok, though they definitely could have been fluffier.  My next attempt was at a snagged recipe of melt in your mouth rolls from O'Charley's...not my greatest victory.

Finally, after much debate and a slightly deflated ego, I found the recipe I had been looking for.  Thank you Betty Crocker for your wonderful recipe, Gold Medal Classic French Bread. I am truly a fan.

Being Heart Happy

Ever since I could remember, I have thrived on the joy of others. If I could just make you smile, make you laugh, even make you smirk, then my heart becomes happy and I am unstoppable. I want to share with you some of the things that I see that help keep the joy alive in my soul. Simple tho they may be, heart happy they make me.
