Jamie and I have been working our BUTTS OFF. Quite literally I might add! We have spent the better part of the last two months participating in strength training exercises, classes like Suspension, Zumba and BodyPump and have completely changed the way we eat. I've had several experiments trying to convert my old (but wonderful) fatty, carby recipes into something we can still enjoy. I'll update soon on my new pumpkin bread, peanut butter cookies, lasagna and no bake cookies!

On June 13th, 2013, I lost the most amazing person I've ever known, my mom. I say that with complete certainty because never has the loss of someone left such a hole in my life...and my heart. Her funeral was a blessing in its simplicity and surprising good cheer, which was everything my mother would have asked for. In another post, I'll share with you the eulogy I wrote for mom but was unable to give at her funeral. Thank the Lord, three of my other siblings were able to stand up and say what I could not: words from their own hearts that reverberated with mine.
For the last year or so I have been working a fabulous job that I knew would someday come to an end. I had the pleasure of traveling to local counties and recording information for my company (vague, but true). The work itself was a bit tedious, but being a contractor gave me so much flexibility!
That being said, the time had come for me to search for a more permanent career. For years prior to this, I gave my life to the apartment industry. For any of you who have ever managed apartments, you know that the verbiage used above was absolutely accurate. After an abrupt end to that career path, I knew I had to really rethink what I wanted, but moreso what GOD wanted with my life.
Slowly this past year, I feel that the big guy has been pushing me to get more involved in my community. Subtle is He, lol. I kept popping across scriptures that gave me a clearer image of my future (read the book of Nehemiah). After much deliberation, a nervous interview and a startling phone call, the Lord provided! I was offered, just this morning, the opportunity to be a part of the American Red Cross. I will now get to recruit volunteers, train and setup events to assist local communities in disaster relief and humanitarian benefits! It's a dream come true and for that I am so grateful.
